I have. Back in 2005 I was stopped on the M1 because my car showed up on 
the database as uninsured. I had my documentation with me, and the cop 
was happy with that, guessing that the reg had been entered incorrectly, 
e.g. a 1 instead of an I. It was a NI reg with an I in it). What I have 
seen in TV programs is the cops phoning the insurance company to check 
(prior to seizing the vehicle).
