That implies that the pattern roller is different from the original.
Compare the two. If there is a difference, yes a washer could be used to
restore the correct relationship between roller and arm.
Or maybe the circlip has moved?
I would also complain to the supplier if the replacement is different.
Not the cause of your problem, but check that the tensioner arm pivot
bolt is not bent (you would notice as you do it up). They seem to end up
bent, and that causes the belt edge to rub.
Main thing is to ensure that the belt runs in the middle of the pulleys
when everything (except the top right cover) is put back and you start
the engine. Don't forget to re-check the tension after the engine has
turned a few hundred times.
