The Scottish economy would certainly suffer a blow as a large proportion of
HMRC's tax offices have been transferred to Scotland over the last 6 or so
years.

If devolution occurs then it would be quite difficult to have the tax
affairs of the nation overseen by would be, by then, an ex colony! So,
having spent a fortune moving all these offices north of the border, they
would then have to be repatriated which, no doubt, would cost another
fortune.

Certainly would work out in England's favour longer term. I think the
natural resource licences in the north sea are of less value these days..

Not entirely the case; Scottish father, Irish mother, born in Wales. I think
that makes me British? Ok I support Wales when it comes to rugby and England
when it comes to Football.

I quite like the idea of being British. It will be interesting to see how
the debate in Scotland pans out.

No one born and bred in Britain would call themselves British if they were
asked where they are from, they would reply "English" (or "Scots" or
"Welsh"). We accept it from foreigners, but only because we are polite and
tolerate their ignorance. We are not as tolerant and polite as the Dutch, so
be warned.

Indeed, being Dutch myself and having been brought up and schooled (if
that's a word) in Germany most of my life, I can confirm that on the
continent the whole island referred to correctly as Britain, is simply
called England :-).

Yes it should Richard, that was the title of the original e-mail before I

Perhaps they don't know the difference, you could enlighten them :-)

Looking at the itinerary shouldn't the subject be '928 in Scotland'?
