Hi Mike
Ah yes, Mike Crowther. He had a new MAF at the same time I think ?

Not sure if you wanted to copy your repay to the list ? I've copied this reply to list...

Are the wheels 17" or 16" ?

I think the garage may have meant that the plating on one of the camwheels or oil pump gear was getting thin.

You do need to release the tension on the flexplate, and also check the crank endfloat when released. ASAP !!

I higfhly recommed ther PKLamp available from Roger Tyson at 928sRus.

The previous owner is Rob Crowther. You did remap it in March John.

The thrust plate was adjusted and the bolt re-torqued in November, along with replacing the torque tube. From what I have read and you guys advise, I will be religiously checking this every year.

The cam timing belt was changed in December 2010 though on the garage receipt I read a comment that the (or one of the) sprockets is worn. I guess it depends on how worn but I should probably keep an eye on this. Any thoughts?

Regarding the mpg disbelief, I simply read what the computer told me. Rob said he could reach 27mpg cruising at 65. I was cruising at 72. I will manually check though, using the trip counter and a calculator. If it is correct, it is certainly better than normal and must be a great advert for that engine management remap.

New shocks, even better handling.....now there's a thought!

      Congratulations on your purchase.

Engine mapping, on a car from Cambridge, perhaps JDS would like to comment.

26mpg - as others have suggested, perhaps a miscalculation...

S4 Brake discs are not so expensive, I think about £130 (front pair) from ECP.

Auto boxes - I know nothing other than the deadly Achilles Heal that they introduced - TBF. Do not underestimate the potential for uneconomic repairs if your car suffers Thrust Bearing Failure.

Similarly the other type of TBF, if the timing belt lets go, the car effectively has no value.

I'm not familiar with the Heriot - Carlisle road, but I really do like the A6 through Shap, despite it's deadly reputation. I'll have to check out the B709 next time I'm in the area.

After the preventative maintenance mentioned above, you're most likely to appreciate an investment in new shocks considering the B roads you enjoy.
