Circa 1953 my wife's uncle bought a new International truck which was used on the family farm in Ecuador until the mid 90's. As with the vast majority of Defenders on farms here, it did absolutely everything day in day out and all weather. A few years ago unbeknown to us and after the old boy passed away, everything including the truck was sold. I was gutted to hear this as I love old trucks and would have bought it. Recently going back my wife took Peter my 14 yr old lad and got into a discussion with a family friend - she had a friend with a large car collection which they got an invite to see. Everything under the sun, mostly American but Peter was delighted to see an S4 under a cover, the last one of 3 928's the guy had. Following that discussion, they got on to talking trucks and the family International came up in conversation. My wife's friend then said she knew where it was, in fact just a block away. She also knew the new owner and although could not get hold of her, they drove round the block on the off chance. And there it was!! Restored, ugly as hell wheels but all in all not too shabby! What struck me was the headlights!! Anyway, 2016 may be the year I join them for a trip to Ecuador and top of the list is negotiating a buy back of the old family truck.
