[928uk] High Mileage Nervousness - Cam Chains

Sorry Paul - those chains have very little stress on them which would be basically when starting the engine or sudden acceleration, virtually no stress most of the time due to the inertia of the spinning cam (the chain driven one) in conjunction with eight valves all at different positions at any given moment.I've rebuilt several 32v engines and never seen signs of needing to change those chains. I think mileage is not relevant, good oil and regular (scheduled) changes much more important.I wouldn't worry Paul, just put it down as a job to do with a cambelt change perhaps ? You know better than most how much work is involved to change those chains !
P.S. I would say "do it when you have the cam covers painted" but that's not a suitable comment to you is it ;-) Best Regards,Paul L

The only thing that currently makes me slightly nervous about my engine is that I'm on the original cam chains.
Some time ago I do remember Jon (now resident in Oz) posting about aged and stretched chains ripping teeth off of camshafts - not pleasant!
Has anyone had any experience or insight on this issue?
