Hi,twiddle with the dimmer.is the hvac controller illuminated ?

 ‘87 S4 - over the last year I had 3 of 4 bulbs go bad until a few months back the last one went. I replaced them all and was good for a couple of months until I lost them all a few days ago - I thought fuse but the ashtray bulb is fine - changed fuse 44 in case but dash illumination bulbs are all out - all the other bulbs in the  cluster work fine! Any ideas?
