Im sure its some form of sealant. As for “tidying” -  why? Its original and covered with foam and carpet! Why bother if its just age? Nothing wrong with that originality. But if its that bad you could fill with new sealer and rattle can to blend in, or worst case strip and redo all the bad stuff!! There should be sticker in the boot also. A white square label - this is the sticker which has a unique build number on it. Lots are lost to water damage as they are just paper. If you have it protect it - I spent ages generating fonts to replicate these - worst case I can create replicas which Ive done for a few people!
