Hi Peter,

PET = Porsche Ersatz Teile Katalog = Genuine Parts Catalogue

It is a computer based parts catalogue. It contains a picture (drawn) of every part for every Porsche. All part numbers and prices. It’s a complex system but only useful for parts / prices and definitely not learning about the cars !

It is used by the Porsche staff at OPC's (Official Porsche Centre) and is not supposed to be available for public use.

 

If you want to learn then you need the official workshop manual (often referred to as “WSM” here). The printed manual is best, especially for electrics, but it’s huge and expensive. You can fortunately get the entire thing, and much else, in pdf format.

Send me your address off list and I’ll post you some “stuff” on a CD or memory stick........................

While I'm probably not really safe to be let loose in a garage with real tools and real intent, I am really interested in getting even a slightly better "fix" on what my 928 and 944 are all about and trying to work out what the experts use when they're trying to find out how things work, part numbers etc.

PET appears to be something referred to quite regularly and I'm sorta guessing that this is THE BIBLE and that it's either an on-line or downloadable resource; am I right?

My guess is also that it's also only really suitable for "experts" and I'm wondering if some of the downloadable .PDFs offered from various sources on the 'net might be a better starting point for this ageing, wannabee apprentice 😎

While video guides would always be my preference,, I'm also interested in any shortish written introductions to different the various operational systems which make ours cars what they are and which might just help me better understand some of the talk that goes on here 😲
