Re Headlamp Relay

Martin's problem with the Porsche replacement relay with suffix 63 for his S4 are reminiscent of my Porsche replacement relay with suffix 64 in my GTS, discussed a couple of times previously on this forum.

Mine were similar symptoms, although I'm not aware of relay getting hot. Same solution; get a used original part. Maybe only GTS affected, but several known to be. A number of you, including Jonathan, kindly helped to confirm this at the time. I did hope to get help through PCGB, but there was no support and then came covid, so it went nowhere.

Jonathan, if you do find a helpful contact in the rather remote Porsche empire I would be happy to let you have a 64 suffix relay to look at to see if your suspected design fault is common to these replacements.

Further to the issue with new headlamp relays for the 928, does anyone on
928UK have any technical contacts within Porsche?

I have studied the 928.618.107.63 relay extensively and I believe it has a
fundamental design flaw, which causes it to overheat and misbehave in normal
use. I would like to take this up with Porsche, but I need to find a
suitable technical contact there to discuss it with.

Just to let everyone who responded to my problem, and to others just for

their interest, the problem is now solved.

Just to recap, when I switched onto main beam, and then switched off main

beam, it wouldn't go back on, then if I switched to side lights, back to

headlights, nothing.  The relay also was getting extremely hot when on main

beam.

All wiring was checked and no problem found.  The relay 92861810763 (which

was in the car when I bought it) is the Porsche recommended replacement for

92861810701, no longer available.  I bought a new 92861810763 just in case

the first one was faulty, but exactly the same problem occurred.  I

searched for, and found a used 01 on eBay in Germany, bought it and fitted

it yesterday. IT WORKED.

So, the Porsche replacement has a problem, well, in my car.

If anyone needs a headlamp relay 92861810763, I now have 2, going very

cheap.
