Hi Jonathan
Pauls car is manual so thrust bearing not an issue.
When I rebuilt my engine last year (Head gasket) the bottom end was nigh
on perfect with hardly any wear on the thrust bearing despite being Auto
(I did have a Ritech clamp of course!!). I changed athe mains and big
ends as a matter of course.
The heads were another issue entirely. erosion was awful despite havong
changed the anti freeze regularly. I changed the heads it was that bad.
I will get the old ones laser welded and skinned at some stage - later
S4 heads will become rare soon.
Balancing the crank, rods and pistons, flywheel and pulleys has made a
noticeable difference as well. I also used Cometic head gaskets.
