Hey Ben,
The brackets to hold the mats sandwich between the seat runners and the seat rail. The brackets are slotted so you only need to loosen the allen bolt to slide them in. You must be very very careful of the allen bolts as they have a shallow head and if you round one off you are in trouble.
So far as I've observed these fittings are the same on all seats from S onwards. I'm only a tiny bit unsure of very early 78-79 seats as I've seen some odd seat bases in these very early cars - they have no up/down adjustments.

Hi All,

Sorry - rekindling this with one more question that I can’t find an answer
too on the interweb.

Will the Porsche mat set (p/n below in Smiffys response) work on the
earlier cars? By work I mean with the fixing brackets that come supplied
with them.
