Ah-ha! I didn't even think to look for replacement ball sockets - good idea! That clip looks identical to the one I lost (apart from the colour which I obviously don't care about).

Ah. Is it like the clips in the door lock links, or heater mixer linkage?
If you can find a picture of one, someone might be able to suggest a source.
