[928uk] Rubber CV boot

I don’t have notes but I’ve done this job on both my 928’s.

A couple of things to note. The 6 inner hex socket bolts can be a pain to undo. You need to rotate the shaft until you can get a hex socket bit firmly inside the bolt. If it’s at a slight angle it will slip and damage the bolt. When you come to do this it will make more sense as it’s not so easy to explain.

When putting it all back together the outer hub nut needs to be torqued up to something like 320lb. I bought a torque wrench specifically for this job a few years back, so to buy or borrow one is by the easiest option. There is a more scientific way to do the job involving weights and a breaker bar etc but I took the simple route.

I did have to lower the rear of the exhaust on both the S4 and GTS, but I know the S2 exhaust takes a different route.

Overhauling the shafts is actually quite straightforward, but it is very messy. I have always used the GKN boot kit that comes with grease and clips. Make sure you clean everything out before rebuilding.

It takes longer to remove and refit the shafts than the actual overhaul takes. I can’t remember how long it took me to do the first time on my S4, but when I did my GTS it was an afternoon job.

Cheers,
Simon.
