It's worked for me for 15 years plus after the spacer disappeared. Arms stay separated by the tie wrap - no tapping noise.
Or maybe your exhaust system just isn't loud enough!! 😉

But a tie wrap is hard plastic whereas the spacer is soft rubber . It stops the two arms from touching and also stops the tapping noise that I hear when my spacer has slipped.
