That explains why I didn't recognise it, I haven't owned an 84/85 with
ABS. The 84 I had was HK spec without the ABS option.

That's what's left of the bracket that holds the connector for the
ABS and the pad sensor. The big hole goes under the nut for the
upper wishbone.
But... that is knackered.

The missing turn on the spring coil would make a bit of
difference, but the
handling of the car is not affected by spring stiffness alone.
The 2 front
"corners" are not independent. The shock absorbers, the
anti-roll bar, and
the chassis all play their part in the car's handling. And any
asymmetry in
weight of engine ancilliaries and driver/passenger will also have an
effect.
So I don't think the missing turn on the spring coil would be as
noticeable
in general driving as your message suggests Smiffy. It certainly
seems
David hadn't noticed anything strange.
Nicer to have both springs the same ideally though.
